ARTIFACT: This is a 1953 British MK IV "Turtle" Police Helmet. 

These were an update of the MK III Police Helmet, created during WWII. The MK IV was updated for Cold War usage for Police Protection of Civilians during anticipated Air Raids. 
The helmet is large and is in medium weight steel, painted blue, with a chinstrap. 
A decal with word POLICE in white is prominently displayed on the front. 

VINTAGE: Circa 1953.

SIZE: Approximately 5-1/2" in height; head opening is about 12" in depth x about 10" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted steel, elasticized woven cotton strap, metal buckles.

ATTACHMENT: To be worn protectively on head, secured by chinstrap with buckles.

MARKINGS: Faint but appears to be: __ CO AS 1953

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The helmet has some scuff marks and wear on the inside the edge; there are also some areas of a black rubberized residue on the outside.
