ARTIFACT:
Circa 1968 United States Air Force Security Police Helmet from Vietnam named to 'HIGGINS'. In response to the threat to air bases, the Chief of Staff initiated the Safe Side Program under the Seventh Air Force, creating an experimental 226-man unit, the 1041st USAF Police Squadron (Test), trained in using the M-16 rifle, M-60 machinegun, and air base ground defense tactics.

Approximately 22" inside circumference; 8" ear to ear; 11" back to front; 6 _" tall
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Resin, paint, leather, steel, olive drab heavy duck
ATTACHMENT:

MARKINGS:
"HIGGINS" on reverse of helmet and a #4 written on the inside side brim. On the olive drab duck strapping inside of the helmet, under the leather, there is an ink maker's stamp, barely readable due to the leather piece atop it, but the date: "27 SEPT 67" and "M-1 (INFANTRY)" can be seen.

CONDITION:
8- (Very Fine&emdash;Excellent): Helmet shows moderate surface wear, nearly all of the painted details remain intact. Inside leather headband is soft and supple, overall helmet is in excellent condition.
