Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a great circa 1942 shoulder patch for the United States Army Air Forces China Air Task Force (CATF). The patch is Chinese-made in silk embroidery upon twill in the "wild tiger" design. The CATF replaced the 1st American Volunteer Group (aka "Flying Tigers") and was the precursor to the 14th Air Force. The CATF was led by Brigadier General Claire Chennault and was made up of the 74th, 75th and 76th Fighter Squadrons and the 23rd Fighter Group.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1942.

SIZE:

Approximately 3-5/16" in height and 3-3/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Twill embroidered in silk thread, muslin backing.
