ARTIFACT:

This is a circa 1890's  tested 14 Karat Gold Associate Member Badge for the Alex. Hamilton Post, # 182, of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in New York City. GAR is a fraternal organization for the Union veterans of the Civil War. This badge is an early badge for the Women's Relief Corps and has their signature FCL at bottom, for Faith Charity Love. The center of the pin is reminiscent of a cut-out circle star badge and reads GAR NY 18The reverse is engraved with the number 4.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1890's.

SIZE:

About 1" in height and 13/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Tested 14 Karat Gold with red, white and blue enameling. 5.5 grams.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical pin with "C" catch.
