Description
ARTIFACT: This beautiful badge was exquisitely hand made by an unknown maker in the Mt. Vernon, NY area. The wreath and eagle are practically 3-dimensional. The pictures do this badge no justice, as the badge is made of bright yellow and rose gold, with bright hard fired translucent red enamel. The panels and center seal are riveted to the badge. It is really a masterpiece. The Mount Vernon New York Fire Department has had a Fire Commissioner at the top of its chain of command since at least the 1910's, and this badge surely dates from the earliest period of the Fire Commissioners' office. A work of art aesthetically, and an historically significant piece, from a New York City suburb, this badge would be a centerpiece of any Fire Collection.
