ARTIFACT: This is an unidentified circa 1840s bronze United States medallion showing an eagle above a striped crest that reads HAIL COLUMBIA. This wafer-thin piece was excavated at some point, as is reflected by its fragile condition. It is unknown whether this piece was somehow associated with the military, or perhaps politics or another arena.

VINTAGE: Circa 1840s.

SIZE: Approximately 1-9/16" in height and 1-5/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bronze.

ATTACHMENT: Two holes.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an unidentified collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. Item will not be sold until it is identified. VAJX11 LX5/11

CONDITION: 5 (Very Good-Fine): The medallion is in very delicate shape and shows some heavy oxidation and cracking (there is actually a small gap along the outline of the wing that is hard to see from the photos).

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
