Description
This is an unidentified circa 1840s bronze United States medallion showing an eagle above a striped crest that reads HAIL COLUMBIA. This wafer-thin piece was excavated at some point, as is reflected by its fragile condition. It is unknown whether this piece was somehow associated with the military, or perhaps politics or another arena.
VINTAGE:Circa 1840s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-9/16" in height and 1-5/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Bronze.
ATTACHMENT:Two holes.
MARKINGS:None.

CONDITION:5 (Very Good-Fine): The medallion is in very delicate shape and shows some heavy oxidation and cracking (there is actually a small gap along the outline of the wing that is hard to see from the photos).
