Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an unidentified ArmŽe Franaise TrŽsor et Poste (French Army Treasury and Post Office) badge by Alexis Godillot. The badge shows an eagle with a rooster's head, a symbol popular after the fall of Napoleon through the Second Republic. Napoleon encouraged the use of the eagle rather than the traditional rooster to represent France, and Napoleon III again revived the eagle symbol during his reign (1852-1870).

VINTAGE:

Circa 1848-1852 (?).

SIZE:

Approximately 3-1/8" in height and 2-9/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Four loops.

ALEXIS GODILLOT.
