ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful Model 1946 Spanish Air Force officer pilot dagger with sword knot, hanger and buckle. The sword knot is a golden acorn with a netted overlay. The bright and beautiful blade bears the "FN" Toledo mark for the Fabrica Nacional (National Arsenal). It comes in its original gilt brass scabbard with decorative bands at the rings and a chained hanger. The grip is celluloid and the pommel is a crown shaped in a doorknob style. The guard has a small wing and crown on one side and the Seal of Spain on the reverse and its arms end in similar doorknobs.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1946.
SIZE:
Approximately 19-1/4" in length and 3-1/2" in width (at guard); blade only: 14-1/2" in length (including ricasso) and 3/4" in width; scabbard only: approximately 15-3/4" in length and 1-1/16" in width; about 20-1/4" total length (while in scabbard); hanger drop is about 11" away from scabbard; buckle is 2-1/8" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Steel blade, celluloid grip (brass wire wrapping is missing), gilt brass and plated brass, rayon/cotton/nylon knot; gilt brass and brass scabbard; gilt brass buckle.
ATTACHMENT:
Rings on scabbard, hanger, clips, sword knot; buckle.
MARKINGS:
FN TOLEDO (Fabrica Nacional /National Arsenal maker mark) under crown.
