Description

ARTIFACT:

Beautiful, early 1970's United States Navy UDT/SEAL jacket back patch. The Philippine-made, fully embroidered patch shows the Underwater Demolition Team mascot, a frogman or 'Freddie the Frog' wearing a white Naval cap and 'smoking' an explosive and holding another in his hand. The SEAL mascot is 'Sammy the Seal' a brown seal wearing a navy blue cloak and black beret, while holding a dagger, Sammy's pose is suggestive of the old saying "cloak and dagger" a metaphor for doing things under the cover of darkness - in secret. Above the two of them it reads: "UDT/SEAL" in black embroidered lettering.
