ARTIFACT: This is a circa World War II Occupation Period distinctive insignia for the United States Army 83rd Chemical Mortar Battalion, also known as "Longbow". Originally the 83rd Chemical Battalion Motorized starting in 1942, the group was redesignated as the 83rd Chemical Mortar Battalion on the last day of 1944. They were inactivated November 26, 1945. The DI was made in Austria in silver-plated brass with painted details and has an Innsbruck maker mark on reverse. The DI reads OMNI ELEMENTE VINCE (We win in all elements).

VINTAGE: Circa post-World War II (Occupation Period).

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/16" in height and 1-1/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silver-plated brass, painted areas.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin with saddle.

MARKINGS: PICHL KLAMMER INNSBRUCK.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The DI shows only very light wear.
