Description
This is a medal of the 43rd Regiment of the Massachusetts Voluntary Militia in New Berne, North Carolina. The medal shows a badge in relief at the center of which is the Masonic symbol. A banner at top reads 43rd REGIMENT. A bar with scrollwork and a lion's head graces the front of the pin.
VINTAGE:Circa 1863.
SIZE:3-3/8" height by 1-3/8" width: medal has a 1-5/8" diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Silver-plated nickel with silk ribbon.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal pin with "C" clasp; silk ribbon.
MARKINGS:NEW BERNE, NORTH CAROLINA McCLELLAN LODGE UNDER DISPENSATION FROM M.W. GRAND LODGE MASSACHUSETTS 1863 engraved on reverse. Front bears EDLER maker's mark.

CONDITION:6 (Fine+): This medal shows a bit of wear and thorough tarnishing; ribbon is intact but frail.
