ARTIFACT: These are 3 of the Most Incredibly Rare WWI US Air Service Wings to find in Bullion, all from the 1918 Dondero Sample Display Board that was originally in Washington D.C.. The Senior Aeronaut is the Only One Known.
Pieces from the Dondero Sample Display Board were acquired by noted Militaria Dealer Dan Griffin in either the 2000's or early 2010's and at least these 3 wings were sold to prominent and aggressive WWI & WWII Aviation Collector "Putnam Green", and these were sold by Putnam through Rock Island Auction in 2022.
VINTAGE: Late World War I, 1918.
DIMENSIONS: Approximately: Bombing Military Aviator: 1-1/4" in height x 3-13/16" in width. Senior Aeronaut: 2" in height x 3-11/16" in width. Fighting Observer: 1-1/2" in height x 3-7/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bullion embroidery on woven wool felt with glued on paper backing residue from the original display board.
ATTACHMENT: To be sewn on to Uniforms.
MARKINGS: N/A. 2 of the original collection tags from the Putnam Green Collection remain on the backs of the Senior Aeronaut and the Fighting Observer wings.
