Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a 1950s framed promotional print for the USS United States, flagship of the United States Line. Begun in 1921, United States Lines was originally a shipping company. They debuted the USS United States in 1952 as the fastest ocean liner and the boat, although retired to Philadelphia, actually still holds the Blue Riband – the award for the fastest transatlantic speed record. The print is signed by the artist.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1950s.

SIZE:

Approximately 23-1/2" in height by 32-3/4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Wood, canvas, plated brass, metal wire.

ATTACHMENT:

Two hooks, wire.

MARKINGS:

W. J. AYLWARD.

CONDITION:

7+ (Very Fine+): The print has a few very small scuffs and some overall yellowing. The paper backing has come away.
