1950s American President Lines (APL) Security Guard Service Badge by George F. Lake Co.
ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1950s security badge for the Guard Service of the American President Lines (APL). The shipping line assumed its current name in 1938, after having several earlier incarnations. The company continued its earlier trademark practice of naming each new ship after a different United States President. The badge was made by the George F. Lake Company of Berkeley, California and is numbered 48.
VINTAGE: Circa 1950s.
SIZE: Approximately 3" in height and 2-1/4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass.
ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin on bar with come-under locking swivel catch.
MARKINGS: 48; GEORGE F. LAKE CO. BERKELEY, CAL; PAT. number on bar.
