Description
This is a 1945 edition of "U.S.S. Seawolf: Subamrine Raider of the Pacific" by Gerold Frank and James D. Horan. The book narrates the submarine's early World War II exploits told in a conversational narrative style. Seawolf was launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on August 15, 193One of the first American submarines to torpedo a Japanese ship, Seawolf is credited with several kills. This book covers only until January 1943 when the ship's initial commander, Captain Frederick Burdette Warder, was relieved and the Seawolf returned to San Francisco. She subsequently went out on nine more war patrols, led by a total of three more commanding officers. Her fate is unknown: it is conjectured that she sank October 3, 1944, a result of friendly fire from the USS Richard M. Rowell. Although the book was published after the Seawolf was officially struck from the US Naval Register, the dust jacket chillingly describes the ship as "unscathed". The book has its original, color illustrated dust jacket and was published by G. P. Putnam's Sons of New York.
