Description
This is a launching ribbon for the USS Cisco SS-290 from Portsmouth Naval Yard on December 24, 1942, though the ribbon has a 1943 date on it, and bears the slogan "Remember Pearl Harbor". USS Cisco put out on their first war patrol September 20th, but never returned. Japanese records tell of sighting a submarine leaking oil on September 28th in an area where Cisco is known to have been the only submarine then operating. Japanese records state this submarine was sunk by bombs and depth charges, so Cisco is thus presumed to have been lost in action September 28th, 1943.
