Description
This is a dated 1938 M-38 Luftschutz (or Air Protection Warning Service) gladiator helmet with about 98% of its paint and decal intact. "Luftschutz" is short for Luftschutzwarndienst, a civilian organization who calculated which cities were most likely to be the targeted for air raids and alerted the populace when necessary. It was a voluntary group until 1943 when every civilian regardless of gender was mandated to be a part of the Luftschutz. The beaded divider encircling the helmet's crown denotes that it was intended for non-military wear (the sticker inside the visor shows that this model was approved for sales to the Luftschutz). The helmet is painted blue and has a large winged swastika and oak leaf decal above the visor.
