1882 High-Wheel Bicycle Medal for New England Fair Bicycle Tournament at Boston

This is a 2nd prize high-wheel bicycle medal for the 1882 New England Fair Bicycle Tournament held at Boston. The medal is by T.D. Carl of Worcester, Massachusetts, and comes in its original silk-lined box. The medal shows a whimsical Mercuryesque figure astride a high-wheeler.

Circa 1882.

Medal: approximately 3-1/8" height and 1-9/16" width; box: 2-1/2" x 3-3/4" x 7/8".

Gilt brass; silk, cardboard.

Horizontal T-style pin with C catch, chains; hinged box with locking clasp.
