ARTIFACT: This is a book on the unit history of the United States Army Air Forces 417th Bombardment Group, also know n as the "Sky Lancers". Attached to the Third Air Force and later the Fifth, the 417th was active from March 23, 1943 until November 15, 1945, flying Douglas A-20s. The 417th served primarily in New Guinea and the Philippines, and received the United States Distinguished Unit Citation for an offensive maneuver at Lingayen, as well as the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. This book was published in Australia in 1946. It has rosters, some excellent photographs, including action shots and some informal pictures of the men and of the natives, and is a wonderful insignia reference manual.

VINTAGE: Covers circa World War II (published 1946).

SIZE: 226 pages with black and white photographs; approximately 11" in height and 8-3/4" in width and 5/8" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Paper, cloth-covered.

ATTACHMENT: Glued binding.
