Description
This is a World War II submarine launch tag for the USS Queenfish SS-393, launched November 30, 1943 at Portsmouth (NH) Naval Shipyard. Queenfish received six battle stars during World War II, but her war service was somewhat overshadowed when she mistakenly sank a relief boat that had been granted safe passage by the United States government. Travel through dense fog, coupled with neglect in sounding a foghorn to demonstrate its immunity brought about the demise of the Awa Maru at the hands of the Queenfish.
