ARTIFACT: WWII Imperial Japanese Aeronautic Association member badge in painted aluminum with bottom half of original case. The Great Japan Aeronautic Association became a member of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in 1919. During WWII, the Imperial Japanese Aeronautic Association operated with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education to enroll of school-aged youth who were then trained as military pilots - a time efficient way to ensure young men were ready for service upon reaching the age of enlistment. After WWII, from 1945 to 1952, the Association was completely banned, the JAA rejoined the FAI in 1953. The JAA today, focuses on development of aeronautics and astronautics and maintaining cooperation in the community of global aerospace. The badge is beautifully painted aluminum and features a white floral-like star in the center surrounded by colors of orange, red, and light blue and is suspended from a lovely detailed pinback.
