Description

ARTIFACT:

WWII Waffen-SS Albanian Volunteer Sleeve Shield in excellent condition and displays an embroidered national coat of arms. In the 1940's the German Army and Waffen-SS had large numbers of foreign volunteers coming from across Europe, by far the strongest foreign volunteer contingent. Germans authorized and issued national insignia produced at Dachau Labor Camp, but was never used because the war ended before it was issued. It was to be worn on Werhmacht uniforms. This Albanian Shield was issued and worn by volunteers in the "21st Waffen-Gebirgs Division der SS Skanderbeg"
