ARTIFACT: I'm not sure exactly of the ratio, but for at least every 100 painted Bomb Squadron jackets you might find ONE painted Fighter or Reconnaissance Squadron jacket, and this is the ONLY P-38 Jacket I've had the pleasure to offer in the last 25+ (yikes!!) years! This is a beautiful, all-original, Size 36 United States Army Air Forces A-2 jacket with a HUGE P-38 painted (plastered?? :)) across most of the back of the jacket in a wonderfully patriotic red, white, and blue. On the right sleeve is a US-made CBI Theater patch, and on the left a US-made 5th Air Force patch. On the left breast is a large, beautiful Australian-made 8th Photo-Recon Squadron patch, under the pilot's wing and name tag: R. B. (Richard or "JR.") Monroe). The 8th Photo-Recon Squadron was part of the 6th Photo-Recon Group, 5th USAAF. The jacket comes along with a framed close-up 3x5" photo of the pilot wearing another similar A-2, a framed 8x10" photo of the squadron pilots hanging out at their bar (with unit insignia at center!), and a fabulous 8x10" photo of the pilot standing on front of his P-38 pointing to the nose art "Jeannie The Farmer's Daughter" with his name clearly painted on the side! Also included are a few loose shots of the pilot, a post-WWII College ID, and an Australian-made 5th Air Force patch and a Thunderbird Field patch. A rare-P-38 Jacket grouping fresh out of an old collection!

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): Light wear to most of jacket, but moderate wear to back painting, and considerable mothing to the rear waistband keep it from rating higher. Loose & framed photos, paper, and patches, about an average of an "8"..
