ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful World War I United States Air Service pilot jacket. It has a nice Dallas wing, a bullion embroidered instructor wing on its left sleeve and four medals. The wing has patinated to a wonderful, even, gun-metal blue. The medals are the Victory Medal, a service medal from New Haven, Connecticut, a World War I service medal and an enameled American Legion medal. There are also two winged propeller collar insignia, two US insignia and two bars on the shoulder tabs. The collar is in stiff paper and is stamped with its size and manufacturer. This is back out for sale - it was erroneously marked as SOLD when it had only been ON HOLD for someone.

Circa World War I.
SIZE:
No size tag. Approximately 16-1/2" (armpit to armpit)," 23" from shoulder seam to end of cuff, 13-1/4" across back shoulder to shoulder, about 25-1/2" from base of collar to hem and 15" neck Wing is about 1" by 3-1/2".
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wool with brass buttons, cotton lining, stiff paper collar, embroidery tape; instructor wing: bullion and silk/cotton embroidery; insignia: plated brass; medals: silk, bronze, enameled bronze, brass; Dallas wing: wool-wrapped cardboard, silver.
ATTACHMENT:
Buttons, two hook and eye closures at collar; buttons on pockets; buttons on shoulder tabs; pins on bars, suspension rings; pins on insignia; horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch on wing.
MARKINGS:
ARROW CLUETT, PEABODY & CO. INC. U.S.A. 3756 WELCHOR 15 (in collar); PAT. number on reverse of American Legion medal; 0 6865 written inside sleeve.

CONDITION:
7- (Very Fine-): The jacket has some small holes (four on reverse, one near instructor wing, one on opposite sleeve, some under armpits and a few on the front: all small) and a bit of discoloration near one of the breast pockets; lining is fully intact with some wear/discoloration in armpit areas only. Some medals have fraying on the silk.
