ARTIFACT: This is a World War I Mercantile Marine service medal given to Frederick Gardner. The medal was given both to seamen who served a minimum of 6 months during World War I and those who had previously received the British War Medal and also sailed dangerous waters during the Great War. The medal shows a bust of George V and an oceangoing scene on reverse.

VINTAGE: Circa 1919.

SIZE: 4-1/16" height and 1-7/16" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bronze; silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

MARKINGS: FREDERICK GARDNER engraved on edge.
