ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful presentation 02 model Army officer sword for Captain Edward D. Sirois, the Commander of "C" Battery, 102nd Field Artillery, 26th Division, along with a group of medals, insignia, a flag, a battery commander's ruler, a propeller-shaped paperweight and a patch. The sword has a rare scrimshaw ivory grip in a leaf and berry motif and a guard curved like a cobra's hood. The blade has an engraved message to Captain Edward D. Sirois from his men, which is set off by wonderful scrolling leaf patterns up and down the sword. Here are several medals that belonged to the Captain, including a numbered one for service on the Mexican border, a Pancho Villa "Souvenir" medal, a Massachusetts Service medal for nine years of service, and a Diamond Jubilee National Guard Association medal by Dieges & Clust. There are six enameled distinctive insignia, including one for the 26th "Yankee" Division, one for the 212th Field Artillery Regiment bearing the motto "Vincere est Vivere" (or "To conquer is to live"), and one for the 101st Field Artillery Regiment, bearing the motto "Sic itur ad astra", or "To the stars". Various other insignia include collar devices for the 102nd Field Artillery and Battery C, captain's rank bars, uniform buttons and some assorted service lapel pins. Also included is an embroidered twill patch for the 26th "Yankee" Division, a French flag and a battery commander's ruler, which aided in artillery calculations. There is also a cool promotional propeller-shaped paperweight from WLAW FM radio station in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
