Description
This is a rare gold-front high-level contributor lapel pin for the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen (LLLL) from World War I. The "Four L" formed in 1917 as a measure to preserve the wood supply crucial to the war effort from hindrances caused by labor strikes. This pin would have been presented to large landowners, business owners and industrialists who gave financially to the cause. The pin shows a forest scene with woodcutter's tools on the ground, and through a clearing one sees an airplane flying over a ship. It reads AUTHORIZED BY THE SECRETARY OF WAR at bottom.
