ARTIFACT: This is a wonderful "Active Sammy" lithographed tin soldier toy from World War I. Sammy was the original action figure! His joints swivel, allowing him to get into many different poses, and he is detachable from his base. The base of the toy advertises Thomas S. Childs Inc. shoe company of Holyoke, Massachusetts. Sammy has many wonderful details, including laces on his uniform and ammunition pockets around his middle.

VINTAGE: Circa World War I.

SIZE: Sammy: approximately 4-7/8" in height and 1-1/4" in width (at ease); base: approximately 1-11/16" by 1-3/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Lithographed tin, brass, printed paper envelope.

ATTACHMENT: Figure can be inserted into base; swiveling rivets.

MARKINGS: PATENT PENDING UTOYS TRADEMARK on envelope; THOMAS S. CHILDS INCORPORATED BOYS & GIRLS SHOUES HOLYOKE, MASS. on base.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The toy is in excellent condition with some minor abrasions to the base; envelope is in great condition as well.
