Description
This is a World War I United States Army American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) grouping. The grouping includes a named sports medal in a velvet-lined case and an individual photo of Captain F. Eliot Adams, the captain of the recipient team. The medal pictures a Roman godlike-head in profile and reads SPORTS ATHLETIQUES with the artist's name: FRAISSE. On reverse is a named recipient presentation next to a laurel bough.
VINTAGE:Circa WWI.
SIZE:Various sizes, including an 2-3/8 " x 3" photo and a 2-7/16" diameter medal.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Everything is made of expected materials: medal is silver-plated bronze.
MARKINGS:Medal engraving reads FIRST PRIZE COMPANY CLOSE ORDER DRILL LE MANS 1919 A.E.C. CHAMPIONSHIPS LE MANS , FRANCE 1919 WON BY CO. H 307TH INF. COMMANDED BY CAPTAIN F. ELIOT ADAMS U.S.A on reverse. Mark on edge of medal reads BRONZE.
