ARTIFACT:
Amazing WWII circa 1943 United States Navy VP-12 aviator ring in sterling silver named to original owner. The squadron name "e;Black Cat"e; came from the paint scheme and squadron's bombing operations in the black of night - Commander Clarence Taff had the VP-12 Catalinas painted matte-black and along with other "e;Black Cat"e; squadrons, made night raids on enemy airfields. The center depicts the squadron insignia, a prancing Panther, with VP-12 above in nice raised detail and surrounding it reads: "BLACK CAT COMMAND GUADALCANAL". Each side of the ring features a nicely embellished eagle clutching arrows and fascia in its talons and is named on the inside to: "H.E. KNIGHT" possibly a pilot, or Air Crew Member. Hard to imagine a more cool USN Aviation Ring from WWII!
