This is a Wonderful 1944 US Army Air Force 422nd Night Fighter Squadron Souvenir Ditty Box from Florennes, Belgium with Enameled Plaque.
The enameled plaque shows a bat wearing a flight helmet pushed back up on his head who invites the enemy to pick their poison: revolver or dagger.
The 422nd Night Fighter Squadron was one of the first allied units to realize that Germany's Operation Grief, the Battle of the Bulge, was beginning. Missions were increased by the 422nd and a number of German aircraft were destroyed taking the air pressure off the 101st Airborne Division cut off at Bastonne. Opening sequence features P-61 Black Widows of the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron, stationed at Florennes/Juzaine, Belgium, during World War II.
