ARTIFACT: This is a great old advertising thermometer in celluloid for the Piscataqua Savings Bank of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Piscataqua is one of Portsmouth’s early banks and is still in operation, borrowing its name from the river flowing through town. The “new home” pictured on the thermometer is a building on “Exchange Row”, which was purchased by Piscataqua in 1924, and remains the bank’s property even today. This thermometer was made by the Parisian Novelty Company of Chicago, a manufacturer well-known for their celluloid items, and has a nice paper maker’s label on reverse.

VINTAGE: Circa 1924.

SIZE: Approximately 6-1/4” in length and 2” in width.

CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Celluloid, glass, cardboard backing.

ATTACHMENT: U hook.

MARKINGS: Made by Parisian Novelty Co., Chicago Mfrs, Advertising Specialties on tag; Parisian Novelty Co., Chicago Pat. 10-14-1923 along edge.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a bank advertising item collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay SHOP VEJL97 VHEX9/13 SLGJX7/14

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The thermometer has some limited crackling to the celluloid but is otherwise in very good shape.

GUARANTEE: As with all my items, this piece is guaranteed original.
