ARTIFACT:
This is a great old advertising thermometer in celluloid for the Piscataqua Savings Bank of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Piscataqua is one of Portsmouths early banks and is still in operation, borrowing its name from the river flowing through town. The new home pictured on the thermometer is a building on Exchange Row, which was purchased by Piscataqua in 1924, and remains the banks property even today. This thermometer was made by the Parisian Novelty Company of Chicago, a manufacturer well-known for their celluloid items, and has a nice paper makers label on reverse.
