The Green Howards was an infantry regiment (19th Regiment of Foot) of the British Army that gained its nickname in 1744, taken for the name of their colonel. In 1875, Princess Alexandra adopted the regiment, and their insignia became her first initial and her crown set against the Danish Cross.
