ARTIFACT: This is a Veterans of the Air Service badge by Whitehead & Hoag. The badge reads VETERANS OF THE AIR SERVICE AEF (American Expeditionary Forces) and has a typewritten insert labeled OTTO HIRZEL 4TH REG – 17TH CO. Beneath a picture of an aircraft hang three bars reading BUFFALO 1928, INDIANAPOLIS 1929, MILWAUKEE 1930.

VINTAGE: Circa 1930s.

SIZE: 4-1/4" height and 1-11/16" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass with enamel and paper insert behind glass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin and chain links connecting bars beneath to badge.

MARKINGS: WHITEHEAD HOAG NEWARK N.J. on reverse of badge; THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK N.J. on reverse of last bar.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJX06 LABEX 5/10

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): Handsomely tarnished badge shows light wear and some abrasions on bars.
