Description
This is a very rare jacket patch for the United States Navy fighter squadron VF-7Originally belonging to then-Lieutenant J.G. Frederick W. Luebke, the patch shows a blue hornet wearing a sailor's cap and two pairs of boxing gloves. The patch was designed by Walt Disney Studios in 1939 back when the squadron was the VF-Lt. Luebke was with VF-72 from 1941 when the squadron was on the USS Wasp, the USS Ranger, and the US Saratoga, until July 10, 194On this date the squadron was serving on the USS Hornet and it was sunk at the Battle of Santa Cruz. Thereafter the squadron was land-based at Guadalcanal from February 3, 1943 until it was disbanded.
