This is a very rare World War II US made Jacket Patch for the United States Navy Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 16 MTB RON 16, a unit which saw action in the southeast Pacific. The patch shows a drunken sailor riding a Torpedo over the ocean superimposed with the number 1PT Boat Patrol Torpedo.
The Squadron was commissioned on 26 February 1943, and decommissioned on 26 November 1945.
The many PT Boats of this squadron: 71, 72, 213-224, 235, 241, 242, & 295-301, saw action in the Aleutians and then in the Southwest Pacific.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 4-3/8" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Fully embroidered patch in multi-colored cotton / silk threads.
ATTACHMENT:To be sewn onto a Deck Jacket.
