ARTIFACT:
Very cool, complete set circa 1908 of Sears, Roebuck, & Co. Stereoview Cards 1 - 50. Stereoview cards were made between 1860 and 1920, and almost all consist of thin paper photographs that were pasted on cards. During the period between 1890 - 1920's Stereoview cards began to be produced in large sets for big corporations, educational institutions, and libraries. This Sears & Roebuck set shows many aspects of the company's culture and contains fifty cards, the first is of R.W. Sears himself and the reverse shares his sentiment of creating the Stereoview cards to allow customers to 'see' daily operations. The reverse of each card has a paragraph or so explaining the image, the first of Mr. Sears is titled: "R.W. SEARS, PRESIDENT SEARS, ROEBUCK 7 CO., AT HIS DESK" and Mr. Sears writes: "Hoping this stereoscopic insight into our institution will make you feel even better acquainted with Sears, Roebuck & Co., and the writer, I am, Most gratefully yours" and is signed, "Richard W Sears".
