ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful 2-piece grouping that at one time belonged to a CAT (Civil Air Transport) Pilot who became an Air America Pilot when the company changed its name in 1959. Large "coat-Size" Air America wings are rare, but this one takes the cake in rarity as being one of the very first wings made: it was converted right from a Civil Air Transport (CAT) pilot wing with the application of an "AIR AMERICA" central shield right over the old CAT logo! This wing and the accompanying mint hat badge came out of an old collection, and sadly the name of the original owner has been lost to time, but it is still a beautiful and rare set with an extremely rare wing!
VINTAGE:
Circa 1959 & 1963.
SIZE:
Wing: approximately 1-1/8" in height and 3-1/4" in width; badge: approximately 2-3/8" in height and 2-1/8" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wing: sterling silver; badge: sterling silver with enamel.
ATTACHMENT:
Wing: two screw posts with disc backings; badge: single screw post with disc backing and two stabilization posts.
MARKINGS:
Wing: STERLING; badge: STERLING.
