ARTIFACT: This is an unfired and near mint circa 1960 lighter for the United States Navy USS Pollux AKS-4. Launched February 5, 1942, the Pollux was a general stores ship. It participated in the Bikini Atoll atomic tests and was awarded five battle stars in the Korean War and seven campaign stars in the Vietnam War before being removed from service in 1968. The lighter was made by Penguin of Japan. It has an applied enamel medallion showing a red and gold crest with an anchor and two crossed keys.

VINTAGE: Circa 1960.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width and 1/2" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Chrome-plated brass, enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Hinge.

MARKINGS: "Penguin" High Quality Sharp Lighter JAPAN on bottom.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a 1960s USN ship lighter collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJX14 LFJX5/14 SFJX12/20

CONDITION: 9+ (Near Mint): The lighter is unfired and in near mint condition.
