Description
This is a scarce pair of Smith's Patent United States Army infantry captain's shoulder straps from the Civil War. The straps are in a beautiful robin's-egg blue and each have four captains bars. The original patent marks are missing, but these were the type patented in 1861 by Jas. S. Smith.
VINTAGE:Circa Civil War.
SIZE:Approximately 3-13/16" in height 1-9/16" in width (each).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gilt brass, cotton cloth, paperboard backing, brass prongs.
ATTACHMENT:Bendable prongs.
MARKINGS:None: original patent marks are missing.

CONDITION:7- (Very Fine-): The straps each have some moderate wear, especially on the reverse where some small areas of the backing have come away. The cloth on both straps is in very good condition and one has only one small spot of light staining. There are small spots of wear and tarnish to the gilt brass on each strap.
