ARTIFACT: This is a scarce circa 1941 (World War II) USS Finback SS-230 celluloid launch button/badge. Finback was launched August 25, 1941 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Portsmouth, NH/Kittery, ME). Starting her career at the Battle of Midway, Finback had a 75% success rate for her 12 war patrols, and she received 13 battle stars for World War II service. She is also noted for rescuing future US President George Herbert Walker Bush, who was a naval aviator shot down in 1944. Finback was decommissioned on April 21, 1950.

VINTAGE: Circa 1941.

SIZE: Approximately 1-7/16" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin.
