This is a scarce circa 1941 (World War II) USS Drum SS-228 celluloid launch button/badge. Launched May 12, 1941 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Kittery, Maine), Drum earned 12 battle stars for her World War II service, and completed the same number of war patrols. She was decommissioned February 16, 1946.
VINTAGE:Circa 1941.
SIZE:Approximately 1-7/16" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Celluloid-wrapped tin.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal safety-style pin.
MARKINGS:None.
