ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1930s Pennsylvania Bureau of Plant Industry Inspector badge. The Bureau of Plant Industry was established in 1919 when the Bureau of Economic Zoology, which had operated within the Department of Agriculture since 1897, was reorganized and renamed. Since its further reorganization in the early 1970s, the Bureau's many responsibilities today include Nursery Inspection, Taxonomy, Plant Pathology and Pest Management. We also have a small size and large 1st issue (1920) badge for sale separately (please see links at bottom of page for more information). This later badge shows the end of the excesses of the Roaring '20s as we see the department lose its ostentatious enameled sterling badge for a simple circle in nickeled nickel. Credit: all information above regarding the Bureau comes form the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission website (www.phmc.state.pa.us).

VINTAGE: Circa 1930s.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickeled nickel, painted lettering.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with tongue-style catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a police and law enforcement collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MBEL11 LBGEX7/13

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The badge has very light wear only.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
