Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a nice old circa 1910s or 1920s Pennsylvania State Police badge by C.G. Braxmar of New York.

The badge is numbered 24 and has a large eagle topping the shield.

This Pennsylvania State Police, which was an Incorporated entity, was similar to the Ohio State Protective Association, and vaguely related to the Horse Thief Detective Associations prolific in the Midwest in the 1st half of the 20th century (and earlier), but it was not actually part of the State Agency, the Pennsylvania State Police.

It existed primarily to provide private policing and security services in rural areas of the state that were not well canvased by state or local Law Enforcement Agencies.
