ARTIFACT:

1930's – 1940's United Order of True Sisters Jewish women's organization member badge with blue sapphire charm. The United Order of True Sisters was established in 1846 and is said to be the first independent national women's organization in the country. The ultimate purpose of the UOTS is as a charitable organization, but it also had a political goals and resembles other fraternal groups like the Masons and Odd Fellows. The center of the intricately detailed gold-filled badge shows the letters: "UOTS" surrounded by a wreath that shows an enameled bow at the base from which a bezel set sapphire charm dangles.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1930's – 1940's.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-1/8" in height x 3/4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gold-fill, enamel, sapphire.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal pin with drop in locking catch.

MARKINGS:

"SHILLING N.Y. 1/10 G.F."

CONDITION:

7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows minor to moderate wear mostly to center, much of the plating and enamel details remain intact, overall very fine condition.
