ARTIFACT:

Rare WWII United States Navy Liberty Pass for Heavy Cruiser, USS Chester (CA-27). The green pass reads: "U. S. S. CHESTER", "No. F-31", "COMORA, S", "Rate: COX", "This entitles the bearer to leave ship on liberty if entitled to liberty; and, if ship is at a Navy Yard, to pass through gates. To be shown to O. O. D. when leaving, and dropped in check box on return to ship. Use of this card for other than authorized liberty or by other than the person named is an offense" and the bottom is signed by "H. J. ABBETT COMMANDER, U.S.N. Executive Officer. The reverse reads: "COMMANDING OFFICER U. S. S. CHESTER TO POSTMASTER NEW YORK, N. Y.", "Penalty for private use to avoid payment of postage, $300.00".
