ARTIFACT: This is a Rare, WWII United States Army Air Forces 55th Bomb Squadron (Light) / 55th Bomb Squadron (Dive) / 492nd Fighter - Bomber Squadron / 492nd Fighter Squadron, 48th Bomb Group / 48th Fighter - Bomber Group / 48th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force embroidered Jacket Patch.

The squadron flew many different aircraft through its career, activating on 15 January 1941: A-18 (1941), A-20 (1941-42), A-35 (1942 - 1943), P-40 (1943), P-39 (1943 - 1944), P-47 (1944 - 1945) and they were stationed overseas in France, Germany, and England, the squadron was inactivated in November 1945. The patch depicts the profile of an eagle's head while the eagle glares through a bombsight with a bomb in its claw, ready to be dropped. The patch is fully embroidered in bright, vibrant colors and is in excellent condition.

VINTAGE: World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 4-3/4" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered silk/cotton/polyester thread.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn on to flight clothing.

MARKINGS: N/A.
