ARTIFACT: This is an ashtray with a miniature model of the United States Navy USS Sculpin from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The Sculpin was sunk in 1944, and tragically some of her surviving crew was plucked from the sea by the Japanese and transported to an aircraft carrier that was subsequently sunk by the USS Sailfish. Cruelly, many of the USS Sculpin's crew had participated in a rescue party a few years before for the very same ship (namely the Sailfish aka Squalus) that would unknowingly cause their death.
