Description
This is a wonderful WWII Portsmouth Naval Shipyard desk plaque of the USS Billfish (SS-286), a well decorated submarine that went on 8 War Patrols during the Second World War. The Billfish, while on patrol in Japan, was the target of a harsh attack by a Japanese destroyer and its depth charges. The submarine sustained heavy damages, as did most of the crew, but due to quick thinking of Lieutenant Charles W. Rush, the submarine was able to escape the assault and finish the patrol.
