Description
Rare WWI Service Medal from La Plata County, Colorado by Whitehead & Hoag Co. The medal is formed in the shape of an ornately decorated Maltese cross with a standing, spread-winged eagle atop a stars and stripes US Shield, above reads: "UNITED STATES FORCES", "1917 1918" and the planchet is suspended from a red, white, and blue silk ribbon. The reverse of the medal reads: "PRESENTED BY THE PEOPLE OF LA PLATA COUNTY, COLORADO IN GRATEFUL RECOGNITION OF PATRIOTIC SERVICES IN THE WORLD WAR"
